What is iNEXT?
iNEXT - interactive Network for Experimental Training is a 3-year project to develop state-of-the-art resources for teaching molecular biology to advanced level in German schools. The project is supported by the Robert Bosch Stiftung, Germany, within the framework of their NaT-Working Programme – Natural Science and Technology: students, teachers and scientists network. Under the coordination of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), teachers and students from 4 local schools: (Altes Kurfürstliches Gymnasium, Bensheim (AKG), Internationale Gesamtschule Heidelberg (IGH) Lichtenberg Oberstufengymnasium, Bruchköbel (LOG), Marie-Baum-Schule Heidelberg (MBS), are working with the European Learning Laboratory of the Life Sciences (ELLS), EMBL scientists and science education researchers to design, develop and test modules for teaching molecular biology.
The resources covering 4 main themes — Evolution, Developmental Biology, Metagenomics and Cell cycle and Disease — will be presented at a final conference in 2011 for distribution to German schools.
